Over 170 programs are funded in the North and West Metropolitan Region of Melbourne to provide assistance to people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. Five of these services are funded through the Transitional Housing Management (THM), to provide; Initial assessment & planning; Transitional Housing; Housing Establishment Funds (HEF); and Special Housing Needs Assessment. The remaining programs are funded through the Supported Accommodation Assistance Program (SAAP) to provide case managed support to assist people to move from crisis to stable, long term housing. SAAP includes: women’s refuges, youth refuges, other crisis accommodation services and case managed support provided on an outreach basis to people in other forms of accommodation or ‘living rough’. Demand for homelessness support and transitional housing currently well exceeds the capacity of these services to respond.

Liberty Guard was established with one specific mission: Protect and Defend Individual Liberty. Due to the increase in the size and scope of government on all levels, combined with political classes that falsely march with freedom and liberty as their banner, the fight for liberty must take place on many levels and make use of diverse methods. Established as a 501(c)4 under IRS code, Liberty Guard is a fiercely non-partisan, not-for-profit organization that engages in public education campaigns, court action, and legislative activity. Liberty Guard makes full use of the media, courts, legislative influence and, most importantly, the energy of its supporters to advance liberty.

Formally established in 2005, SecondBite was the idea of Ian and Simone Carson who decided they could no longer watch good food go to waste whilst people went hungry. For the first year, SecondBite was 100% volunteer run; however, in late 2006 the surplus food supply and recipient demand meant that some serious coordination was needed. So once seed funding was secured, our first member of staff came aboard. Times certainly have changed since the early days. Now those few humble boxes of surplus food have grown into 50+ tonnes of fresh fruit, vegetables, meat, fish and deli items every month! To read more about our generous food donors, please click here. We believe it’s the simplicity of our model that has led to this phenomenal growth. Keeping it simple has enabled us to be extremely flexible in our collections, thus maximising the quality and quantity of food collected and minimising waste. SecondBite believes passionately in working collaboratively with other agencies. Not only does this conserve precious resources, but it also ensures that for today and tomorrow all community groups, large and small, receive the best possible service and a get a ‘fair go’ at receiving good quality fresh nutritious food.
